Get Involved in 2023!
Step 1. Start an iNaturalist account (instructions here) and join the iNaturalist project "Haida Gwaii Toad Community Monitoring"
Step 2. Adopt one or more toad breeding sites (sites names here) - coordinates for the sites below Step 3. Record toad observations of any life stage on iNaturalist (in this project) at toad breeding sites, and elsewhere on Haida Gwaii (instructions here)! Here is a resource to help you correctly identify all toad life stages. If you want to enter the data on a survey sheet and then fill it out on iNaturalist when you get home, feel free to use this survey sheet. The monitoring runs from late April to early August, volunteers count toads, quantify the amount of toad eggs and tadpoles, and later in the summer, measure the number and direction toadlets leave the pond. All very simple methods that anyone can learn! There's also room for additional things to monitor as the community desires. Step 4. Spread the word! And join the facebook group to keep updated. https://www.facebook.com/groups/haidagwaiitoads. Email [email protected] with questions. |
